MEMBERSHIP
A Word from High Kappa
Every fraternity has a program for new member education, yet the program at Lambda Chi Alpha is unique. Having abolished pledging in 1972 nationwide,
new members are offered Associate Membership, which is commonly referred to as the AM Program. Never will our new members be belittled by the term 'pledge'
or be separated from active brothers in rights or responsibilities. Lambda Chi Alpha has and always will be a progressive leader in the Greek community both nationwide
and at the University of Iowa in its stanced against hazing and abuse of new members. The brothers of Lambda Chi Alpha have no time or manpower to waste and will
never request a new member to do what a men could not or should not do.
I encourage your interest in Lambda Chi Alpha, and assure you that my fellow brothers and I welcome you to our chapter.

"New member" has a completely unique meaning at all Lambda Chi Alpha chapters. Never as a new member in this fraternity will you ever
be referred to as a pledge. Lambda Chi Alpha abolished pledging in 1972 and has since instilled a program to allow new members to be
active participants in the chapter. Thus, the Associate Membership program was created, giving new members the exact same rights and responsibilites
as the active brothers.
Along with no pledging, Lambda Chi Alpha has an incredibly strict no hazing policy. In Lambda Chi Alpha, hazing is defined as, "any action taken or
situation created intentionally to produce physical discomfort or mental discomfort by embarrassment, harassment, or ridicule." No Lambda Chi Alpha brother feels
it necessary to belittle his fellow man through unnecessary and cruel actions.
Lambda Chi Alpha also has one of the
shortest new member education programs of most fraternities, let alone the
fraternities on campus. Lasting a maximum of just six weeks, our new member education program is designed to instill the seven core values of any brothers - Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Service and Stewardship,
Honor, Integrity, and Personal Courage - which, purposefully, form the acronym, LeaDeRSHIP. We strive to find natural leaders in our community who share these
core values and wish to better themselves as men.
